* Just What I Am, A Woman: a tribute to Lucy Hicks Anderson

  • 1995

An independent, affluent, and well-loved black trans woman, Lucy built an empire of successful brothels in Oxnard, California during the time of Prohibition. She and her husband were subject to harassment and persecution when it was discovered that she had been assigned male at birth. During her trial she stood fast and strong in her identity, saying “I have lived, dressed, acted just what I am, a woman.” The fragrance inspired by her is an ebullient bouquet of Valencia orange, gin and tonic, rich tobacco, Madagascar vanilla and tuberose.

Available in 5 ml bottle or 1 ml sample vial.

Good vs Evil and Ascended Masters 2020 Collection

This is an Archive scent.  We are not planning any more reblends this year, just selling out remaining poured bottles/vials.

In the bottle: Floral. Oranges, maybe? But just the skin, before peeling them in any way. And not intense oranges either. I used to wear a body mist like this years ago, it had glitter in it and I loved it then, but I was also single digits. Maybe, like most things, it will mature with time?

Wet: There's some herbaceousness! That's promising! Maybe that's the gin and tonic? An incense comes through pretty strong on me, but it's expensive, good incense. That body mist of my youth (o weary aged me) is still under there, which reminds me off teenage years wandering Earthbound in the mall with my friends. Not a bad memory to conjure, but hoping to grow further past the hermit crabs and slices of geode on leather cords.

Dry: Well... that's an interesting turn of events. We did not strictly continue past scent puberty here, taking a sharp turn half an hour in to... spicy play doh? Someone tucked a Play Doh creation into the baggy that held the incense. The herbal is all gone, along with anything else that isn't... spicy play doh.

Verdict for me: Three out of five "Nooooo, it's a kitty!" 's. I did find myself come back to it, and a chunk of the journey was pleasant memories, but they left. There's commentary there, but I don't have therapy today, so we'll stick a pin in it.
