This opens with a sharp, almost menthol-like quality, but that’s very short-lived. The tomb moss swiftly begins to take over while the rain-soaked rocks lend a comforting dampness, like collecting a childhood toy that had accidentally been left out in the storm. The patchouli doesn’t make an appearance until well after the dry down, but once it does, I understand what is meant by the notes describing it as ‘wet.’ It is absolutely a dank patchouli, giving off the smell of sweet, woody decay. This was the first scent I’ve tried that led to some pretty entertaining and vivid dreams, so Shadow Grove will be getting plenty of use from me on chilly evenings in need of an adventure.
