Squash Blossom

  • 1995

These bold yellow blooms have very little scent of their own, so I dreamed up an accord to compliment their joyful beauty. Cocobolo wood, orris root, carrot seed, sunflower petals, mandarin zest, and acorn squash baked with brown sugar. Wear to illuminate the solar plexus chakra and cultivate fearless self-assurance.

Available in 5 ml bottle or 1 ml sample vial. Phthalate-free.

Autumn Part I collection.

Intensely savory squash

Squash Blossom has quite an intense opening. In the bottle and immediately on the skin, the mandarin, squash, and spiced cocobolo create a potent trifecta of naturalistic autumn notes. As it mellows, it becomes quite nice— it’s so real on that squash note: herbaceous and sweet but not at all sugary on its own. It’s not pumpkin pie, it’s taking a deep long whiff of the insides of a pumpkin or gourd as you crack one open… even a little savory. Perhaps you have a bowl of molasses-rich and spiced dark brown sugar on the counter. This may seem contradictory but they all resonate separately rather than as a single dessert note.
I don’t really like this as a perfume, that intro feels so heavy on the skin, but I do think this is an excellent atmospheric for fall (perhaps as a candle or on potpourri) when you don’t want a sweet gourmand, it’s much more rustic and earthy.

I think this needs to age some…

Well Squash Blossom definitely has potential. I feel like this oil will benefit greatly from aging. Right now, the mandarin zest is bitter and overpowering the other notes. I get hints of the sunflower petals and the carrot seed but not much more…yet. From my own experience I’ve noticed some perfume oils need some rest and or aging to reach their full potential.
