Over the last several months, as frequent waves of illness swept through my circles of friends, I brewed up variations on a spicy broth that seems to have held it at bay.
So, when my husband woke up one day with a sore throat, I offered to make him a cup. He cast a suspicious eye toward me and asked "what's in it?" I ran down the list of ingredients and he grimaced, as expected. But, it was the kind of ominous, back-of-the-throat feeling that portends at least a week of misery so, he quickly relented. Lo and behold his assessment thereafter was, "it was actually pretty delicious." The next day, he felt much better and what's more, he hasn't shared the ick with me.
So, for the folks out there who are working toward recovery or just seeking prevention, here's what works for us. Enjoy!
Nui's Flu "Shot"
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon thyme
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
1 tablespoon raw organic honey
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 cup hot water
Simply combine all ingredients and sip at your leisure. Handy to have in a thermos when you're out and about.
